Welcome

Welcome to the Moofspeak IRC Network. Created as a collaboration between two pre-existing networks, our primary focus is Mac-centric channels. However, we welcome anyone who wants a stable and non-political home for their channel.

Our network consists of around 10 client servers and a full set of services.

Unlike large networks, we have the same sense of community and selflessly helping others that you find almost all the way through the Mac enthusiast community. Don't hesitate at any time to drop into #Moofspeak and/or msg one of us if you have any queries.

IRCd Move Redux
Tuesday, 28 October 2008

Hey all again!

This post is to clerify the action (or lack of action) so far on the IRCD move.

There has been a lot of discussion internaly, and we're finally ready to move forward. Thanks to the efforts of jdhore and currawong, we've gone over each individual configuration option in the new IRCD and it should be uploaded to the testnet by the time you read this.

So, check out the testnet! If you moderate or own a channel make sure your channel is working correctly. Keep in mind that the services database was cloned a couple of weeks back, so the latest channel changes won't be up there.

Services ARE NOT changing, we are sticking with anope.

If you have any questions or comments, PLEASE come see us in #moofspeak. We're always around to help you with the testnet, although there shouldn't be much migration stuff. We'll keep this space updated as we progress..

Thanks to all of you, you make the network the awesome Mac resource it is!

N.B: Check out the Opers Blog for more information! It's new section we'll update from time to time with network internal stuff, and other information that isn't quite as critical. :)

New better web chat
Tuesday, 22 April 2008
Courtesy of Mibbit.com, we now have a considerably better web chat system, replacing the old and crappy pjirc Java chat. Not only is it more reliable and better looking, but you can resize the window and has proper tabs for each channel. Let us know what you think in our poll.

Channel owners: You'll notice web chat users appear as This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Make sure that your ops do NOT ban *!Mibbit@* in your channel or your members wont be able to use the web chat.

Update: I've changed a few of the default settings for the web chat so it works a bit more like a real IRC client. For some reason, the default settings which included these features were not being enabled as expected.

Update 2: Mac users must be using at least Safari 3.0 to use the web chat. Safari 2.0 will not work!

Vhosts
Monday, 03 March 2008
If you weren't already aware, you can request a custom "vhost" for your nickname (after you've registered with NickServ) which will turn:

This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

into something better looking, such as:

This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Well, maybe not that, but whatever you want after the "@" can be requested. Just type this:

/msg hostserv request whatever.vhost.you.want. The only limitations are, it must have one full-stop in there.

If you aren't yet registered with NickServ, for information, see this guide.
